The Camino de Santiago

Daily Mass will be arranged based on priest availability and location preference.

 

Day 1  Depart from USA

Buen Camino!  We start our Camino experience today as we board our flight to Santiago. Meals and beverages are served in flight.


Day 2  Santiago / Sarria

We arrive in Santiago were we are met by our friendly PATHFINDERS tour manager who takes us to our coach. We enjoy a panoramic tour before enjoying a local meal. We continue on by motor coach to Sarria to prepare for our Buen Camino! Overnight in Sarria.


Day 3  Sarria / Portomarin
Distance 22km (13.67miles), 6hrs.


Today we take our packs, passports, and scalloped shells as we make our first steps of our 100km pilgrimage on the Camino de Santiago! We reach the high point of the day at Pena dos Corvos (660m)! Upon arrival in Portomarin, relax at a local café before we gather for dinner.  Overnight in Portomarin.


Day 4 Portomarin / Palas de Rei
Distance 25km (15.53miles), 6hrs.

Our pilgrimage today takes us across the Minho River and past the tiny Romanesque Church of Santa Maria before reaching our high point at Sierra de Ligonde (750m). Upon arrival, we relax and take in Palas de Rei before we gather for dinner. Overnight in Palas de Rei


Day 5  Palas de Rei / Arzua
Distance 29.5km (18.33miles), 7hrs.


Today our pilgrimage passes through San Xulian de Camino, stopping to visit St. Julian Church, built in the 12th century. Along the way we pass through Melide, where we try the ‘pulpo Galega’, a regional octopus dish. Dinner and overnight in Arzua.


Day 6  Arzua / Rua
Distance 18km (11.18miles), 4.5hrs.

Our pilgrimage continues as we visit the Shrine of Santa Irene and the Baroque Fountain of Healing Waters. Upon arrival in Rua, we relax and enjoy our final night on the Camino! Dinner and overnight in Rua.


Day 7  Rua / Santiago
Distance 22.5km (14miles), 5hrs.


Today is the last stretch of our Camino de Santiago! We pass through San Paio and Lavacolla, where it is traditional for pilgrims to wash in the river before reaching Santiago. Next we check into our hotel for some relaxation and dinner. The evening is free to enjoy the sites and sounds of Santiago! Overnight in Santiago.


Day 8  Santiago
Distance 117km walked! (72.7miles)


We start out early today to visit to the Basilica of St. James and register to receive our “Compostela,” the accreditation of the pilgrimage to the Tomb of St. James! Following the Pilgrims Mass, we will take a guided tour of the Basilica and make our way to the statue of St. James. The rest of the day is yours to explore Santiago and celebrate your Buen Camino! We will gather this evening for a farewell dinner. Overnight in Santiago.


Day 9  Santiago / USA

This morning we transfer to the airport for our flight home, taking with us wonderful and inspiring memories of our pilgrimage, which will be treasured and relived for the rest of our lives.
